Get Involved in World Aids Week

As part of our participation in the campus wide World AIDS Week, the UConn Sexperts are raising money to donate to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, located in Ashford, Connecticut, for their HIV/AIDS summer camp session and family weekend, as well as making a general donation to the Association.

We are asking all student organizations as well as individual students, faculty and staff to participate in World AIDS Week to help promote awareness of HIV/AIDS and the effect it has on the community locally, nationally, and worldwide. Each organization or individual participant has the option of fundraising for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp or an HIV/AIDS based organization of their choice.

What Events Take Place During World Aids Week?

Various events take place during World AIDS Weeks for the campus community. Events include: Free HIV/AIDS testing, Wear Red Day, Art4AIDS Exhibit, HIV/AIDS Vigil, and Condom-a-thon. Informational tabling will also take place throughout the week to raise awareness of upcoming events and to give out educational materials, testing information, abstinence kits, and safer sex kits. For more information, please visit the HIV/AIDS Events page by clicking here, or visit our calendar for dates, times, and location of events.

How Can I Get Involved?

Any student organization or individual student, faculty or staff member may participate in the fundraising efforts of World AIDS Week. Each participating individual or student organization will need to complete a Fundraising Registration Form and e-mail it to healthed@uconn.edu. The individual or student organization has the option of fundraising for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp or an HIV/AIDS based organization of choice.

Fundraising Rules and Instructions

Registration -

If an individual student, faculty/staff member or student organization wishes to participate in the fundraising initiative of World AIDS Week, a Fundraising Registration Form will need to be completed.

Registration forms must be e-mailed to healthed@uconn.edu for registration to be complete.

Donation Logs -

Individuals and student organizations registered for World AIDS Week can access donation logs here. Donation logs may be printed for all participating members of each organization. However, each individual and organization is responsible for filling out the top portion of the donation logs with the name of the organization for which it will be fundraising. Students may do this by opening the Donation Log Word document and manually typing in the HIV/AIDS based organization’s name.

*The final total of money raised by each organization must be e-mailed to healthed@uconn.edu no later than Tuesday, December 2nd.*

Participating Organizations and Individuals -

Each organization and individual that participates in the fundraising initiative of World AIDS Week will be individually recognized on the Health Education website as well as presented with a certificate of participation.

Determining the Fundraising Winner -

The fundraising winner will be determined by the total number of money raised divided by the number of actual participating members in the fundraising competition. This is the most accurate way to fairly establish a winner. Similarly, the winning organization will be announced at the HIV/AIDS Vigil, which will take place on Thursday, December 3th, 2009. Student organizations must be present at the Vigil in order to be declared the winner.

In addition to being announced at the Vigil, the winning organization will be presented with a certificate, personally recognized on the Health Education website, as well as having its name placed on a plaque within the Health Education Office as the 2009 fundraising winner.

We look forward to your participation in World AIDS Week!
